What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Breathing pure oxygen under pressure — so your body absorbs far more of it than air ever allows.

In short

What HBOT actually is

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a well-established clinical practice in which you breathe 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. That elevated pressure lets far more oxygen dissolve directly into your blood plasma than normal breathing ever could — flooding tissue throughout your body with the oxygen it needs to recover, repair, and perform.

How it works

More oxygen, under pressure.

Henry’s Law, simply put

Ordinarily, your red blood cells carry most of the oxygen around your body. Henry’s Law tells us that when the surrounding pressure increases, more gas dissolves into a liquid — so inside a pressurised chamber, far more oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma, the fluid that reaches every tissue.

Why pressure matters

Clinical hyperbaric therapy operates at a therapeutic pressure range — roughly the equivalent of descending 10 metres below sea level. That elevated pressure is what allows oxygen to saturate the plasma and reach areas that restricted blood flow would otherwise leave starved.

The result

A powerful, oxygen-rich environment many people use to support recovery and wellbeing — a practice that’s become increasingly popular with athletes between training blocks.

The science behind each benefit

A closer look at the science — and what each area means for you.

Mitochondria — the energy factories inside your cells — depend on oxygen to produce ATP, the fuel for almost everything your body does. Many people use HBOT to support their everyday energy and recovery.

More sustained everyday energy

An oxygen-rich environment is one many people use to support healthy circulation and the body’s natural repair processes — helping deliver what tissue needs to recover, from skin to connective tissue.

Support for circulation and recovery

By flooding the body with oxygen, HBOT is used by many people to support the body’s own natural repair and renewal processes — its raw material for feeling restored.

Support for the body’s natural renewal

By supporting oxygen delivery to hard-worked tissue, many people find HBOT supports a calmer, more comfortable recovery after training, exertion, or a demanding week.

A calmer, more comfortable recovery

The brain is one of the body’s most oxygen-hungry organs. Many people use HBOT to support their focus, mental clarity, and everyday sense of wellbeing.

Sharper focus and steadier mood

Oxygen plays a role in almost every process your body runs. Many people make HBOT part of a wider wellbeing routine to help them feel resilient and at their best.

The experience

What does a session feel like?

It’s natural to feel a little nervous before your first session — almost everyone does. The reality is calm and comfortable: you settle into the chamber, and the pressure builds gradually around you.

You’ll breathe pure oxygen through a comfortable BIBS mask, and as the pressure rises you may feel a gentle fullness in your ears — exactly like an aeroplane taking off. A simple yawn or swallow equalises it in moments. From there, you simply relax and breathe.

  • Gradual pressure build — slow, controlled, and guided by the team throughout.
  • BIBS mask delivery — concentrated, pure oxygen, breathed normally.
  • Easy to equalise — a yawn or swallow clears any ear fullness instantly.
  • A full 60 minutes at therapeutic pressure.
What makes it effective

The four elements of effective HBOT

Not all hyperbaric therapy is equal. Genuine results depend on getting four things right — together.

01

Time

Each session runs long enough for oxygen to do its work at depth.

02

Frequency

Benefits are cumulative — consistency over a course produces the best outcomes.

03

Pressure

Our hard-shell tier reaches full therapeutic pressure (2 ATA) — the level that carries the mechanism.

04

Oxygen

Clinical pure-oxygen delivery, not simply ambient air enriched at the edges.

Two chamber tiers

Not all chambers are the same

Hyperbaric chambers come in two forms — and we offer both, each on its own terms. The pressure a chamber reaches is what determines the science it can support.

Hard-shell · 2 ATA

The clinical-grade flagship

Two units · BIBS pure-oxygen delivery

Rigid, hard-shell chambers that reach full therapeutic pressure. This is the tier the science on this page describes — Henry’s Law at 2 ATA, meaningful tissue oxygenation, and the mechanism-level benefits.

  • Premium two-seat (A/C, red-light, TV) and a laydown chamber
  • Pure oxygen breathed through a BIBS mask
Soft-shell · 1.4–1.5 ATA

The gentle, accessible tier

Two units · one wheelchair-access

Lower-pressure soft-shell chambers for a gentler, more comfortable introduction — and for accessibility. A lighter experience in its own right, rather than a scaled-down version of the flagship.

  • A calm way to acclimatise to hyperbaric therapy
  • A dedicated wheelchair-access unit so more people can begin

The mechanism-level science described above — Henry’s Law, tissue oxygenation and the associated benefits — reflects the 2 ATA hard-shell tier. The soft-shell tier operates at a lower pressure and is offered as a gentler, more accessible option.
