What is HBOT?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a well-established clinical practice in which you breathe greater than 93% pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber. That elevated pressure lets far more oxygen dissolve directly into your blood plasma than normal breathing ever could — flooding tissue throughout your body with the oxygen it needs to recover, repair, and perform.

How it works

More oxygen, under pressure.

Henry’s Law, simply put

Ordinarily, your red blood cells carry most of the oxygen around your body. Henry’s Law tells us that when the surrounding pressure increases, more gas dissolves into a liquid — so inside a pressurised chamber, far more oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma, the fluid that reaches every tissue.

Why pressure matters

Clinical hyperbaric therapy operates at a therapeutic pressure range — roughly the equivalent of descending 10 metres below sea level. That elevated pressure is what allows oxygen to saturate the plasma and reach areas that restricted blood flow would otherwise leave starved.

The result

HBOT increases oxygen delivery to tissues, which accelerates healing, reduces inflammation, and improves cellular repair. It has clinically demonstrated benefits for wound healing, recovery from injury, and overall physiological function, with emerging research showing improvements in sleep, cognition, and energy.

The science behind each benefit

A closer look at the science — and what each area means for you.

HBOT increases plasma oxygen tension, allowing oxygen to diffuse more effectively into mitochondria‑rich cells such as muscle fibres, fibroblasts and epithelial cells. This supports efficient ATP production and enhances overall cellular performance.

Efficient ATP production and cellular performance

Higher dissolved oxygen levels influence immune cells like macrophages and neutrophils, helping them regulate oxidative stress and maintain balanced inflammatory responses. This supports smoother recovery after physical or lifestyle strain.

A smoother, more balanced recovery

Skin benefits as oxygen reaches keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts, the cells responsible for renewal and collagen structure. Elevated oxygen availability supports natural turnover and tissue vitality.

Support for renewal and tissue vitality

HBOT enhances oxygen delivery to enterocytes and gut epithelial stem cells, which constantly regenerate to maintain digestive balance. This supports natural repair and a more resilient gut environment.

Support for natural repair and gut resilience

Pressurised oxygen dissolves directly into plasma, allowing it to reach tissues with lower microcirculation and support muscle cells, connective tissue cells and vascular endothelial cells. This deeper oxygenation strengthens tissue integrity and resilience.

Deeper oxygenation and stronger tissue integrity

The brain’s neurons and glial cells benefit from increased oxygen availability, supporting clearer cognition and improved neural efficiency. Elevated oxygen tension also supports healthy signalling pathways and mental performance.

Clearer cognition and neural efficiency

Oxygen‑rich plasma supports muscle fibres and connective tissue cells as they rebalance after exertion. This helps the body settle into a calmer, more restorative recovery state.

The experience

What happens during a session

  1. 01

    You enter the pressurised chamber

The chamber gradually increases to a comfortable pressure level — similar to what you might feel during takeoff in an airplane.

  2. 02

    You breathe high‑purity oxygen

Inside the chamber, you inhale oxygen at greater than 93% purity, far higher than the ~21% found in normal air.

  3. 03

Pressure changes how your body absorbs oxygen

Under pressure, oxygen doesn’t just travel in red blood cells — it dissolves directly into your blood plasma. This is the key scientific mechanism behind HBOT.

  4. 04

Plasma carries oxygen deeper into the body

Because plasma can reach areas with lower circulation or higher demand, more oxygen becomes available to tissues that normally receive less.

  5. 05

Cells receive a richer oxygen supply

    This elevated oxygen availability supports:

    • Mitochondrial energy production (ATP)
    • Cellular efficiency and resilience
    • Natural recovery and repair processes
    • Overall physiological performance
  6. 06

Your body uses the oxygen to function at its best

Nothing is forced — HBOT simply gives your biology more of what it already uses to operate, recover and perform.

What makes it effective

The four elements of effective HBOT

Not all hyperbaric therapy is equal. Genuine results depend on getting four things right — together.

01

Time

A 60‑minute session provides enough sustained pressure and oxygen exposure for deeper tissue saturation and meaningful plasma oxygen uptake.

02

Frequency

HBOT works cumulatively; repeated sessions build higher plasma oxygen levels over time, supporting more consistent physiological benefits.

03

Pressure

Pressures of up to 2 ATA increase plasma oxygen tension significantly, enabling oxygen to diffuse deeper into tissues that normally receive less.

04

Oxygen

Our BIBS system delivers near‑pure oxygen, maximising absorption efficiency while maintaining the highest safety standards inside the chamber.
